Kansai region is also called a Kinki region and it includes prefectures like Mie, Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara and Wakayama. These prefectures received tons of visitors yearly due to their many attractive places. For Muslim travellers who are searching for prayer spaces or mosques in the Kansai region, don’t worry because there are plenty of places where you can perform your prayers and they are all easy to access.


1. Osaka Masjid

Most famous mosque in Osaka, Osaka Masjid is located at Nishiyodogawa Ward. The green pastel-coloured building has a total of four floors. You can find Halal store on the ground floor, praying areas on the second and third floor, toilet, dining area, and kitchen for public use. The praying spaces alone can accommodate up to 500 people at once, although there aren’t many Muslim residents here. Nevertheless, the facility has benefited some of the fellow Muslim travellers that came from all over the world. On a daily basis, the mosque is constantly open for the public whether for praying or if they conduct any Islamic study classes. The mosque is just seven minutes away from Chibune Station.

2. Kansai International Airport

In Kansai International Airport alone, there are three different large-sized prayer rooms. The first prayer room can be found in Terminal 1 building on the third floor, meanwhile, the second and third rooms are at International Departure Gate Area North Wing and South Wing. These prayer rooms are segregated into genders and are fully equipped with washing area, Qibla’ compass, praying attire, prayer mat, and Quran. To top it off, these rooms are open 24 hours a day, so Muslims can easily use these rooms at any time of the day.

1. Kobe Mosque

This is the oldest mosque in Japan which has survived World War II’s bombing and The Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995. The mosque was built in 1935 after raising funds from Muslims community in Kobe. Located in the Kitano area, famous for the Western-style houses, Kobe Mosque is decorated with a huge chandelier in the main prayer space, a library and they also accept tours from non-Muslims. Other than that, the mosque provides services such as Islamic lessons, wedding, Eid celebrations, and other religious events

2. Hyogo Mosque and Jan Academy

Hyogo Mosque and Jan Academy provide free Islamic education to those who are interested in learning Islam inside their facility. Here, they can perform wedding, funeral, organize an iftar party, including events for the Muslims community in Hyogo. Other than that, they also sell Halal food and opened a Halal restaurant near the facility. Plus, it is just five minutes away from Kobe Mosque.

Kyoto’s iconic landmark, Kyoto Tower has installed a small prayer room for their Muslim visitors. Since Kyoto is famous for its bamboo forest, why not decorate the room with bamboo panel wall? Equipped with washing basin, prayer mat and slipper, make sure you head to the front desk and fill up your name and passport number before using the room.

2. Kyoto Islamic Culture Centre

Kyoto Mosque is located on the ground floor of Kyoto Islamic Culture Centre and it’s very close to the Imperial Palace. However, this facility is open from Tuesday to Saturday, other than these days, you need to pray someplace else. The praying space can fit around 100 people at one time and men and women are separated by curtains. Same like any other Islamic Culture Centres, this place also provide Halal food.

1. Nara City Tourist Information Centre

Just one kilometre from Sarusawa Pond, Nara Tourist Information Centre provides a rather small prayer room that can fit for one person. Nevertheless, knowing that there is a Muslim facility in Nara is good enough. On the other hand, this is also a hotel, so if you are travelling near this area, make this inn as one of your choices for accommodation. As you reached this centre, head to the front desk and fill-up the form to use the room. But, the room didn’t provide any washing area, so you need to go to the restroom. After you have used the room, inform the staff again.

This mosque is the first Muslim praying facility in Mie Prefecture. It is situated very close to Mie University which is very convenient for Muslim students. Providing a place for worship and Islamic lessons, the mosque is also equipped with two prayer halls, wudu’ area and a kitchen.
