One of the most successful Japanese cartoon brands in history is no other than the Pokemon brand, which has seen success all over Japan, and also around the world. Those who grew up in the 90s would be familiar with this cute yellow cartoon character.
With the additional craze of the Pokemon Go augmented reality game, the Pokemon characters became even more famous, as there are millions of people around the world that play this addictive smartphone game.
Not forgetting that the Nintendo company also released a brand new movie titled Detective Pokemon, which has also contributed to the increase of curious Pokemon fans around the world.

When did the Pokemon Cafe Open in Tokyo?
While Pokemon has been around for decades, the Pokemon Cafe only opened its doors on the 14th March 2018. That is also not too long ago, and considering it is still new, you can expect hoards of visitors here.
This simply means that you should continue to read about how to visit this cafe and also what can you expect when you come here. As usual, I will strongly recommend you avoid the weekends and just visit on a normal weekday after you have made your advanced booking.

Dining at the Pokemon Cafe in Tokyo
To dine here, everyone has to book a table in advance if you want to visit and eat at the highly popular Pokemon Cafe in Tokyo. I am not kidding, there is no walk-in service available due to the popularity of this cafe.
The cafe recommends customers to book through the official website, where you can choose out of two options which are regular or special. Obviously, if you are a hardcore fan, the Special would be what you need when you come here.
Below is the difference between regular and special customers.
- Regular – Just a normal customer where you reserve a table and order from the general menu offered.
- Special – This is for customers to pre-order special Pokemon Cafe merchandise in advance.

For bookings, they are only accepted via the website, and not through walk-in or telephone. If you try your luck and walk in without a reservation, you will not be allowed into the Pokemon Cafe.
All reservations must have at least one menu item booking as they do not entertain blank bookings. Once at the Pokemon Cafe, there are menus available in three languages, Japanese, English and Mandarin.
If you are a solo traveller, you can also make reservations to dine alone. And please note that for any patrons who dine here, there is no take-away allowed.

What to eat or drink at the Pokemon Cafe in Tokyo?
Because the entire theme is centred around the Pokemon characters, you can expect everything on the menu to be related. For drinks, you can try a unique Pikachu or Eevee latte, Metamon’s Heart fruit tea, a Gengar smoothie, cocktails of the different Eevee evolutions and even hot or cold latte with over 151 different characters created on the top of your latte.
For food, the list is crazy as there are burgers, pancakes, salads, cakes, Pikachu curry rice and chocolate parfaits. Since the release of the new movie, the cafe is offering limited edition Detective Pikachu combo set meals. The prices are also not your average price, hence be prepared to splurge a little more on the food and drink here.

From 8th June 2019, there will be a new menu released which is called Pokemon Gold and Silver. This special menu will be available only until the 6th of September, therefore if you are visiting Tokyo during this time, make sure you head here to experience this menu.
During this time from 8th June, the cafe will also be hosting the My251 event, which is also being held across all Pokemon stores and centres around Japan. This will be a special sticker series of all 278 Pokemon combined in one series.
What to buy at the Pokemon Cafe?

For the hardcore fans, this is the place to get some limited edition Pokemon items and be prepared to spend a bit on this. The must-get items are the limited edition Pokemon Cafe Chef Pikachu stuffed doll, the Pokemon waitress doll and the Putitto Pokemon four set figures which can only be bought at this store.
Other souvenir items include mugs, plates, tote bags, tumblers, special takeaway coffee containers, towels, badges, t-shirts, books, stickers and cutleries. All of them are limited edition to the Pokemon Cafe, so this means that you will never find them anywhere else. The price range for the souvenirs is from ¥460 to ¥3500.

What else can you do at the Pokemon Cafe in Japan?
Because it is a cafe, you can expect a nice quirky menu related to Pokemon and all its characters, and this is what the fans are after. The cafe also follows trends, and currently, from April 2018, Detective Pikachu is one of the special limited menus that are available at the Pokemon Cafe.
Overall, visitors can dine here, take photos and buy special limited edition souvenirs from the Pokemon Cafe. There are no games or any other things to do here. Well, if you are a huge Pokemon fan, this is definitely a place that you must visit when you are in Tokyo.

Where is the Pokemon Cafe in Tokyo Japan?
It is located on the fifth floor of the Takashimaya Department Store that is close to the Tokyo Station in Tokyo. It is also in the centre of Tokyo, and most of the subway train companies will stop at this famous station.
Please do not be confused with the Pokemon Centers as those outlets are available around Japan and they sell all kinds of Pokemon merchandise. This is the only Pokemon Cafe in the world currently, and found only in Tokyo.

How to go to the Pokemon Cafe in Tokyo Japan?
I believe that any visitor to Tokyo will be travelling via train and foot to get here, and the best way to get here is by taking the Tokyo Metro to the JR Tokyo Station. From the station, it is only a 5-minute walk north of the Yaesu station exit.
If you exit at the Nihonbashi Station using the Ginza or Tozai Line, it is only a 3-minute walk from the station exit. This is the closest station to the Pokemon Cafe.
