The bustling city of Shibuya, Tokyo is crammed with locals and tourists, each with the purpose of sightseeing, shopping and food-hunting. Pancakes are seriously one of the popular Western dishes in Japan and we don’t even know why! You can find thin, thick or fluffy pancakes almost anywhere in Japan and it is really delicious.

Situated a little bit further than the famous Hachiko’s statue, this particular restaurant is known to serve melting pancakes. Scotch Bank Café and Dining is very popular among the locals and tourists too, which is why this restaurant is always packed with people. Why melting pancake? Because every time you take a bite, the pancake will melt in your mouth, giving you a cheesy sensation at the aftertaste. The café recommend its customers to use spoons instead of forks and knife, due to its extreme tenderness.

Their pancakes include Mascarpone cheese (an Italian cream cheese) which is the main reason why the pancake melts. Scotch Bank’s signature pancake is Tiramisu Pancake, topped with coffee powder, served with espresso and maple syrup. The combination of these two is exceptionally tasty. Besides Tiramisu Pancake, Mixed Berry Pancake is also one of the high demands here. The pancakes are decorated with fresh berries, spread with berry sauce and Anglaise sauce (English cream).

World’s Second Best Freshly Baked Melon-Pan Ice-cream

Have you ever taste the World’s Second Best Freshly Baked Melon-Pan Ice-cream? This self-acclaimed ice-cream shop truly lives up to its name because it is the best melon-pan ice-cream. Originally from Kanazawa, they opened a new branch in Shibuya and several other places in Japan. Based on its name, you might think that this taste like melon, but, it’s actually just a name given to the bun as it resembles a melon.

Melon pan is made out of thick and fluffy dough mixed with crispy cookie dough. Then, they will stuff the ice-cream of your choice (vanilla, green tea or chocolate) inside the bun. You have to eat it fast because the ice-cream will easily melt from the bun. The best part about this shop is that they only serve freshly baked melon buns. Buns that have been outside the oven for over 20 minutes will be put aside. Other than that, you can also buy plain melon pan bread for only 550 yen.

Good Town Doughnuts and Coffee

The best kind of shop is the ones that sell a wide selection of doughnuts. In Good Town Doughnuts and Coffee, they sell various flavours of doughnuts with many unique coating such as matcha, coconuts, caramel and more. When you reached the café, you will notice that the shop mainly uses white subway tiles which looks very American.

Eddy’s Ice Cream

Who doesn’t love ice-cream? We all do! Instead of buying a regular plain ice-cream, how about you head to Eddy’s Ice Cream to taste their kawaii ice cream?

Painted in pink and white shades, decorated with cute classic telephones and neon lights, each corner is an Instagram-worthy shot. This store is definitely aiming for girls because of its interior and pastel-coloured ice cream. What makes this store so interesting is you can customize your own ice cream if you don’t want to order from the menu. Simply choose any of the ten cones provided, pick three flavours of ice cream and lastly, complete your ice cream with many toppings.

The most famous ice cream in Eddy’s is The Unicorn. The Unicorn consists of pink and blue cotton candy sandwiched in between ice creams. The taste? Very sweet! Other ice creams available in the store are Ms. Ribbon, American, Kiss Me, Flamingo and more. Furthermore, Eddy’s also serve beverages such as lemon milk and strawberry juice, a perfect addition to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Roll Ice Cream Factory

Another ice cream? Yes! But, this is an upgrade version of your average ice cream. Came all the way from New York, landed the first ever roll ice cream shop in Japan. Roll Ice Cream Factory was opened back in 2017 and received so many customers because of the hype. You will see an insanely long queue outside the shop every day and the longest anyone has ever waited was for five hours.

What was the hype about? Well, roll ice cream is made by spreading the ice cream thinly on a cold flat pan, then they will scrap the ice cream to roll them into shape. After that, you can choose over 40 kinds of toppings and 10 types of sauce to complete your dessert. One of their recommended roll ice creams is the American Dream, topped with United States of America’s flag, M&M’s, whipped cream and a biscuit.
